Service
Crown lengthening
Crown lengthening reshapes gum, and sometimes bone, to expose more of a tooth, for adults whose dentist cannot restore a tooth because too little of it shows.

What happens
The visits, in order
Most patients need one surgical visit and a check a few weeks later, before the dentist restores the tooth.
- 01
Step 1: The referral
Your dentist tells us which tooth and what restoration is planned.
- 02
Step 2: The exam
We look at the tooth, the gum and your films and explain what the surgery would change.
- 03
Step 3: The visit
We reshape the gum, and bone if needed, and close the area.
- 04
Step 4: Healing and the report
We check the area, write to your dentist, and tell them when the tooth is ready for restoration.
Good to know
Comfort, other options and what to expect
Comfort
We numb the area with a local anesthetic. Tell us if you want to pause, and ask any time what else is available.
Other options, and waiting
The alternatives can include extracting the tooth or a different restoration. If the tooth is left as it is, the restoration may not fit well or the tooth may be harder to keep clean.
Risks and after-care
Gums can swell and teeth can be sensitive for a while. Gums can settle at a different level than planned. We explain the risks before you decide, and give written after-care.
How this is billed
Some plans pay for it through dental coverage and some through medical coverage, and some do not pay at all. You get a written estimate before any treatment. There is no price on this page.
