A referral to gum care, handled in one phone call

Mill River Periodontal Group is three periodontists in three offices. Dentists send a patient by secure form or by phone. The referral desk books the nearest opening and a written report comes back to your office.

How a referral works

Four steps, and the last one is yours

Nothing in this list needs a patient to chase an appointment.

  1. 01

Step 1: You send the referral

Use the secure form or call the referral desk. Send the reason for the referral and any films you have, and nothing the form does not ask for.

  2. 02

Step 2: The desk calls the patient

Bronwyn or a colleague calls the patient, picks the nearest of our three offices, finds an opening and tells you the date.

  3. 03

Step 3: A periodontist examines and explains

The patient gets an exam, a written plan, the options and a written estimate before any treatment.

  4. 04

Step 4: A report comes back to you

We send a written summary after the exam and again after treatment, so your office can plan its own part.

Three offices

One number for all three

The referral desk answers for every office and books the one nearest the patient.

What we see patients for

Gum care and implant surgery

Each page says what happens, what to ask, and how the visit is billed.

The report

What comes back to your office

Your patient stays your patient. We examine, treat what you asked us to, and write to you in plain terms so your next visit starts from the same page.

Each report covers

  • What we found at the exam, in a periodontal chart

  • The treatment we propose, and the options we discussed

  • What we are asking your office to do, and when

  • Whether and when the patient returns to us

Questions

Before you send a patient

Can a patient call you without a referral?

Yes. Patients can call the referral desk themselves. Some plans ask for a referral from your dentist, so check with your plan, and we will send a report to your dentist if you ask us to.

Will you send the patient back to us?

Yes. Your patient returns to you for routine and restorative care. We see them for gum maintenance only if you and the patient agree.

How soon can you see a patient?

The referral desk gives you a date when it calls the patient. We can't promise a day, and it depends on the office and the week.

What if the patient has swelling or severe pain?

Call the referral desk and say so. If swelling spreads to the face, eye or neck, or the patient has trouble breathing or swallowing, call 911 or go to an emergency room.

Send a referral, or call the desk

The referral desk is open Monday to Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday until 1 p.m. at (413) 555-0100.
